Vintage Carnival: Tusq Events

Sure… Carnivals are known for greasy men with mullets, women with moustaches, Creepy Clowns and roller coasters made with rusty metal, but with the right style and swagger they can be one of the most entertaining and cross demographic themes out there.

Once again, we had the privilage of working with experience art group, Tusq Events, on this 1920’s Holiday Themed Carnival and were SUPER stoked with how it turned out. From a shooting gallery to a bearded lady… This is how Empire City rocks a carnival.

YEAH... WE WISH WE HAD ONE OF THESE... BUT WE DON'T...

ERA’S  & CONCEPTS

Carnivals lend themselves as one of the most versatile themes out there. With virtually endless possibilities, start off by deciding what sub-genre most interests you. Are you a sucker for the 20’s? in love with inflatables? or something totally out there like Neon / Black light? The sky’s the limit…. but developing a great concept board will help you focus your creativity to a single end goal.

These are umbrella... upsidedown

Hot Air Balloons - Yep... they're awesome

WE DO HAVE A SHOOTING GALLERY

See... Here's another pic of it

Custom Built Marquee Lights

ILLUMINATION:

Marquee Lights, String Bulbs and everything Edison… the right lights are perhaps the most vital part of any Carnival themed event. But be choosy with fonts and style, too much of the wrong thing can give a cheesy or even worse… a creepy vibe. Nothing like a Halloween Carnival to ruin a wedding.

KeyStone Kops.. So 1920's

VINTAGE JAZZ TRIO FROM TIGER 8

THIS IS A BEARDED LADY

ENTERTAINMENT

Entertainment is one of the key factors to a fully immersive experience art event, get it right and people will be talkin’ about it for ever.. get it wrong and people will also talk about it for ever… just not nicely.

The legends over at Tusq Events wanted something different than clowns and tattooed ladies, opting for a Vintage Themed Jazz Trio, Mimes, Top Hat & Cane Stilt Walker, A Kops Trio and the highlight of the night…. a Bearded lady.

Vintage ROUND BULB STRING LIGHTS

DECOR

Figuring out how to tie an occasion with a theme can prove to be a dramatic challenge and while Carnivals are great they don’t exactly scream “Christmas”. In order to tie in the holiday season we added in props from “The Christmas Movie” decorating the room with leg lamps of all sizes (from tea light holders to a 100% scale replica piece) and theming our shooting gallery using “Red Ryder” as an inspiration.

Start with a workable Colour Palette (i.e. White & Grey, or White and Burlap for a wedding) and then let your imagination run wild. Stear clear of cliche’d props, and draw inspiration from Movies, Magazines and culture instead (Classical French or Spanish Carnivale are unique and punchy).

Marquee Lights are a must!
